Static Dante IP Addressing for Gio and Sonia Devices

Edited

All current production Gio and Sonia units support both DHCP and static Dante IP addressing. No action is needed if your devices were purchased recently.

Early production units of both product lines were limited to DHCP-only for Dante networking. If you have an early production Gio or Sonia device and need static Dante IP capability, a firmware update is available to enable this feature.

Who Needs This Update

This update applies only to early production units. You can check whether your device already supports static Dante IP by opening Dante Controller and navigating to the Network Config tab for the device. If the option to manually configure an IP address is available, your device already has the capability and no update is required.

The Dante firmware update (version 1.1.0) enables static IP addressing for both Gio and Sonia devices:

Download Gio / Sonia Dante Firmware 1.1.0

Note: This is a Dante module firmware update, not a main device firmware update. It is applied through Dante Firmware Update Manager, not through Xilica Designer.

How to Apply the Dante Firmware Update

  1. Download and extract the firmware file above

  2. Open Dante Firmware Update Manager (available from the Audinate website)

  3. Ensure your Gio or Sonia device is connected to the same network as your computer

  4. In the Firmware Update Manager, select your device

  5. Browse to the extracted firmware file and follow the on-screen instructions to apply the update

  6. After the update completes, the device will reboot

  7. Open Dante Controller and verify that the Network Config tab now shows the option to assign a static IP address

When to Use Static Dante IP Addressing

Most Dante deployments work well with automatic (DHCP or link-local) addressing. Static Dante IP addressing is typically used when:

  • Your network infrastructure requires devices on specific IP ranges

  • IT policies mandate static addressing for all networked equipment

  • You need predictable IP assignments for firewall rules or monitoring tools

  • The installation spans multiple VLANs with managed routing

Important: Dante control/audio IP addressing is separate from the device's management network IP. The static IP configured through Dante Controller applies only to Dante traffic. The device's management IP (used by Xilica Designer) is configured separately through Designer's Network View.
