Password Protecting Your Xilica Solaro System
Xilica offers two levels of password protection for Solaro systems — one secures the physical device against unauthorized access on the network, and the other secures the project file on your computer. You can use either or both depending on your security needs.
At a Glance
Protection Type | What It Secures | Where It's Set | Who It Stops |
|---|---|---|---|
Device password | The physical DSP on the network | Network View → Device Setup → General tab | Anyone with Designer on the same network from loading, downloading, or configuring the device |
Project file password | The .pjxml file on disk | Project → Project Password | Anyone who gets a copy of the file from opening it without the password |
Device Password Protection
A device password prevents unauthorized users on the network from loading project files to the device, downloading project files from the device, or accessing device configuration settings. This is especially important for installed systems in public or shared spaces, schools, houses of worship, or multi-tenant buildings.
Setting Up Device Password Protection
Open Network View in Xilica Designer
Double-click the Solaro device to open Device Setup
Navigate to the General tab
Locate the Device Security section
Create your password
Identifying Protected Devices
Locked devices display with a closed padlock icon in Network View, making it easy to see at a glance which devices in your system are secured.
Logging In to a Protected Device
To temporarily access a locked device for configuration:
Right-click the device in Network View
Select "Login to Device"
Enter the password
You now have full access until you log out or disconnect.
Logging Out / Re-Locking a Device
To re-lock a device after making your changes:
Right-click the device in Network View
Select "Logout of Device"
The padlock icon returns, and the device is secured again.
Project File Password Protection
A project file password encrypts your .pjxml file so that it cannot be opened in Xilica Designer without the correct password. This protects your intellectual property — your DSP design, signal flow, tuning parameters, and system configuration — from being viewed or modified by anyone who has a copy of the file.
Adding Password Protection to a Project File
Open your project file in Xilica Designer
Navigate to Project → Project Password...
Click "Add Password"
Enter your chosen password and click "Ok"
Confirm the password when prompted
Save the file — the password is applied on save
Once protected, anyone attempting to open the file will be prompted to enter the correct password.
Removing Password Protection
Open your password-protected project file (entering the current password)
Navigate to Project → Project Password...
Click "Clear Password"
Follow the prompts to complete the process
Save the file to apply the change
Which Should You Use?
Use device password protection when:
The system is installed in a location where other people may have network access
You want to prevent on-site technicians from accidentally loading incorrect files
Multiple integrators or IT staff have Designer installed
Use project file password protection when:
You are sharing or distributing project files to other teams
You want to protect your design work and IP from being copied or modified
The file is stored on shared drives, cloud storage, or sent via email
Use both when:
You want the strongest protection — securing both the hardware on the network and the design files at rest
Important: If you lose a device password, the device must be factory reset to regain access (which erases the loaded project). If you lose a project file password, the file cannot be recovered. Always store passwords in a secure location.
