Exporting and Backing Up Your Xilica Project File

Edited

Learn how to download your project file from hardware, capture current runtime settings, and ensure your backup is always retrievable.

Downloading Your Project File from Hardware

To export the complete system programming (.pjxml project file) from your Xilica hardware:

  1. Open Network View in Xilica Designer

  2. Double-click the master DSP device

  3. Select the General tab

  4. Click "Download Project Backup File"

Important: Neutrino and Uno devices do not support this backup feature. Always maintain a copy of your .pjxml file on your computer when working with these devices.

Why the Download Option Might Be Missing

If the "Download Project Backup File" option is unavailable, it is usually caused by one of two things:

1. No master DSP is designated

The download option only appears for a Solaro DSP that has Project Scheduler enabled (making it the "master" device). Without this configuration, your project file is not stored in the DSP's memory.

To designate a master DSP:

  1. In Project View, single-click on an FR1 or QR1 device

  2. In the Object Property menu (right side), locate Project System Component

  3. Enable Project Scheduler for this device

2. The file was not saved to the device during loading

When you load a project to hardware from Designer's Project View, the software prompts you to save before loading. If you select Cancel at that prompt, the project still loads to the hardware — but the file is not saved to the DSP's memory archive. Always select Save when prompted to ensure your backup is stored.

Note: Only the most recently loaded project file is saved to the master DSP. Previous files are overwritten each time you load a new project.

Understanding Downloaded File Limitations

The project file downloaded directly from hardware has an important limitation:

  • It represents the original loaded configuration only

  • It does not include any parameter adjustments made during system operation (tuning, volume changes, EQ tweaks, etc.)

If you need to preserve your current live settings, follow the steps in the next section.

Capturing Current Runtime Parameter Settings

To preserve all current hardware parameter settings (including any tuning changes made after the project was loaded):

  1. Download the project file (.pjxml) from the master DSP using the steps above

  2. Open the downloaded file in Xilica Designer

  3. Click "Load Design to Device(s)"

  4. In the dialog that appears, uncheck "Load to device" under all Project Devices

  5. Complete the load process — this synchronizes the hardware's current settings with the project file on screen without writing anything back to the devices

  6. Click "Go Back to Design Mode"

  7. Save the file to preserve all current parameter settings to your computer

This process ensures that all your careful tuning and adjustments are properly documented in your project file for future reference or redeployment.

Best Practices for Project File Management

  • Save often: After any significant tuning session, use the runtime capture process above to save current settings

  • Use descriptive filenames: Append dates or version numbers to your project files (e.g., Conference_Room_v3_2026-09-01.pjxml)

  • Keep local copies: Never rely solely on the DSP's stored backup — always maintain a copy on your computer and/or a shared drive

  • Verify the master DSP: If your project includes multiple FR1/QR1 devices, confirm which device has Project Scheduler enabled — that is the only device that stores the backup file
